Operating under a transfer embargo, the 42-year-old game chances to a number of products of the Chelsea youth academy including Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham. Chelsea finished fourth to qualify for the Champions League and were beaten 2-1 in the FA Cup final by Arsenal in Lampard’s first season in charge. Expectations were raised during the off-season when the club spent over £200m on seven new players, including Kai Havertz (£75m) and Timo Werner (£50m). However, Lampard has struggled to mould a team with the new signings leading to Chelsea losing six out of their 19 league games so far this campaign. Widespread reports in England and Germany suggest former Paris Saint-Germain head coach Thomas Tuchel is set to step in to the Stamford Bridge dugout.
