The Muay Thai teep is one of the most fundamental and versatile techniques at a Thai boxer's disposal. It serves several different purposes in a Muay Thai fight such as intercepting an incoming strike, creating distance, inducing hesitation, mopping up after a failed attack, causing discomfort, and disrupting the breathing and rhythm of an opponent. Every technical fighter from Thailand has mastered the teep. The reason it is such an important technique to any Muay Thai fighter is that it has the potential to beat any other technique when the timing is right. The lower limbs are a fighter's longest (and strongest) weapons, and the teep has the longest reach out of any Muay Thai technique performed by the lower limb. Therefore, the teep has capabilities beyond that of a punch, kick, knee or elbow; it is capable of intercepting ANY technique before it reaches its target.
