Thai Fight knockout/highlight reel of three muaythai superstars; Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee, Iquezang Kor Rungthanakeat and Saiyok Pumpanmuang. Thai Fight first hit our screens in 2010. Its purpose was to bring Muay Thai to an international audience and to show the Thais' superiority over western opposition. Although the format has changed since the early tournament shows, and although the show often receives criticism for not inviting the very best western opponents to fight against the Thais, Thai Fight does a fine job of promoting the sport and bringing Muay Thai and Kard Chuek to wider audiences. For a long time now, the issue within the Thai stadiums such as Lumpinee and Rajadamnern has been that gambling has negatively affected the entertainment value of Muay Thai as it influences the way in which the Thais fight. The traditional techniques of Muay Thai and the stylish manoeuvres that were once used in Thai boxing bouts are slowly dying out due to the immense pressure placed on the fighters by the gambling community in the stadiums. However, although some fans do not appreciate the often obvious discrepancy in skill level between Thais and foreigners on Thai Fight, the show provides a platform for Thais to demonstrate their stylish techniques without the added pressure of having to fight in any certain way to appease the gamblers. Therefore, I personally see Thai Fight as a positive addition to the world of Muay Thai, and urge fans to dive even deeper into the Thai scene to fully appreciate real Muay Thai at its best.
