Anyone who has lived in Thailand and immersed themselves in the sport of Muay Thai knows that, traditionally, there is no grading system in Muay Thai. As Michael Bisping rightly points out in his podcast, grades and belts in Muay Thai are a concept designed to retain students and increase revenue. In Thailand, respect is earned through winning fights rather than from completing a checklist of techniques in the presence of a trainer. Muay Thai is a business in Thailand, and any type of belt system seems meaningless since Thais fight to survive rather than as a hobby.
