From Grand Junction, Tennessee, emerged a legend—a champion forged in the fires of determination. Born on October 18, 1958, this unassuming, skinny boy would defy expectations, rising to become a seven-time world champion across weight divisions, from welterweight to cruiserweight. His journey spanned nearly three decades, leaving an indelible mark on the sport of boxing. The fighter we’re referring to is none other than Thomas “Hitman” Hearns. Hearns boasted an impressive amateur record of 155 wins and only 8 losses. His talent was evident early on, and he quickly made a name for himself in the boxing world. As an amateur, Hearns clinched the National Amateur Union light-welterweight championship. But that was just the beginning. He also secured the prestigious National Golden Gloves Championship at light-welterweight, showcasing his versatility and hunger for victory. Hearns ended his career in 2006 with a record of 61 wins, 48 by knockout, 5 losses, and 1 draw.
