The dual began at 157, where Matt Anderson of Iowa got things started for the Hawkeyes with his 6-2 victory over Matt Veach, one of many new faces in this storied rivalry. Anderson began the scoring in the first period by finishing a low ankle-pick near the edge of the mat for a 2-0 lead. Anderson established control in the second period, though. When Veach chose to begin the period in the bottom position, Anderson rode him for over half of the period.
