Zimbabwe pulled off a stunning 50-run win over Sri Lanka in a rare and memorable victory at Sharjah during the 1997 Singer-Akai Cup. This was only their second win in 10 meetings against the reigning World Champions at the time! Batting first, Grant Flower, Andy Flower and Guy Whittall set the tone, before Campbell and Whittall consolidated in the middle overs. Zimbabwe posted a competitive total and backed it up with tight bowling. Without the rested Sanath Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka's chase lacked momentum. Roshan Mahanama's 42 was the highest score, but the middle and lower order folded under mounting pressure. The last 5 wickets fell for just 5 runs in 3 overs, sealing a famous Zimbabwean win. 🎯 Tight spells from Heath Streak and Paul Strang strangled the Sri Lankan scoring rate, ensuring Zimbabwe’s only win of the tournament. 📌 Match Summary: Zimbabwe: [Score not listed] (Whittall top-scored, Campbell steady knock) Sri Lanka: [Chasing just over 200] (Mahanama 42, Aravinda de Silva 32 off 61 balls) 🏆 Man of the Match: Guy Whittall 📍 Match Info: 📅 April 8, 1997 | 📍 Sharjah | 🏆 Singer-Akai Cup 🟢 Zimbabwe won by 50 runs 💬 Relive this rare moment where Zimbabwe stunned a dominant Sri Lankan side in Sharjah! 🔔 Don’t forget to Like, Comment & Subscribe for more classic cricket memories! #SriLankaVsZimbabwe #CricketMax #Highlights
