تدور الأحداث في عام 1992 على خلفية أحداث الشغب التي وقعت نتيجة لاعتداء الشرطة الوحشي على (رودني كينج)، حيث يسعى (ميرسر) لرعاية ابنه وإعادة بناء حياتهما، وعلى جانب آخر يخطط أب وابنه لعملية سرقة كبيرة من المصنع ذاته الذي يعمل به (ميرسر)، فيتلاقى العالمين في إطار من الحركة.
