In order to be an uppercut, the punch must: 1. Split the guard of the opponent. 2. Hit the centre line from a frontal attack If your 'uppercut' lands, and your forearm is not vertical, then it will meet neither of the criteria defined above. To me, it will actually be a hook. Still a great punch, but just not an uppercut. It is important to have high expectations when it comes to defining your boxing skills. Be precise. Get it right.
